Guided by a set of corporate characteristics indicative of its agricultural roots, AGROTAIN International L.L.C is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lange-Stegmann Company, a trusted supplier of fertilizer products since 1926. AGROTAIN is the world's largest producer of Stabilized Nitrogen fertilizers and is named for the award-winning technology it manufactures and markets. Based in St. Louis, the company is recognized worldwide for its nitrogen management expertise.
Understanding AGROTAIN
In 2000, Lange-Stegmann Company bought an innovative and internationally proven technology named AGROTAIN, and formed AGROTAIN International L.L.C. to introduce AGROTAIN and its family of products.
The AGROTAIN technology is a synthesized molecule that when added to urea or UAN becomes Stabilized Nitrogen. Discovered in the 1980's by a major chemical company, AGROTAIN prevents volatilization of urea-based nitrogen, ensuring more nitrogen gets to the plant where it is intended to go.
AGROTAIN International adds the stabilized nitrogen technology to urea during fertilizer production to create a homogenous nitrogen product for the turf and ornamental and agricultural markets. These products are marketed under the names UMAXX and UFLEXX, and provide the best approach for maximizing fertility programs by offering the most economical way to achieve nitrogen efficiency. HYDREXX is the newest edition to the Stabilized Nitrogen product line, it is a concentrated product added to urea based soluble applications.
In a nitrogen category all its own, Stabilized Nitrogen maximizes nitrogen efficiency by controlling losses due to volatility, leaching and denitrification and holding nitrogen in the soil in a plant usable form to provide consistent feeding that's not dependent on soil temperature or moisture. Because nitrogen is held in the soil, the escape of nitrogen into the air or groundwater is minimized. As a result, nitrogen management improves, resulting in the ability to reduce nitrogen rates by as much as 20%.
Due to the proven performance of Stabilized Nitrogen products, AGROTAIN has progressively become the "Nitrogen Management Experts" for its contributions - both educational and product-specific - toward improving nitrogen management.
Building The Future
On September 16, 2008, Lange-Stegmann and AGROTAIN International officially celebrated the grand opening of its $20 million granulation production center, the Stabilized Nitrogen Center; and urea storage area, the St. Louis Urea Center.
Built to meet the growing demand for imported urea, the St. Louis Urea Center adds 63,000 tons of fertilizer storage to Lange-Stegmann's existing space, enabling the company to increase product handlings up to one million tons annually. With the ability to turn inventory four times each month, the facility is the nation's first inland urea import terminal. The new Urea Center will allow customers to use the facility as an extension of their own supply network and provide easy, affordable access to urea fertilizer from around the world.
With production capacity at 125,000 tons annually, the Stabilized Nitrogen Center is expected to fulfill the growing demand for Stabilized Nitrogen products, including UMAXX and UFLEXX. As the first phase-modifying urea manufacturing plant in the U.S., the facility uses a falling curtain granulation process for enhanced quality control and production efficiency. This process allows for the specific sizing and an accurate, hard spherical shape, and ensures the even distribution of the Stabilized Nitrogen Technology.
